Kohler India, in order to educate unskilled youth on plumbing techniques, has recently inaugurated the Kohler Plumbing Academy (KPA) in the country. Started in association with SNS Foundation - Anand automobile subsidiary, the project has been undertaken as a CSR initiative of Kohler in India wherein complete support shall be extended to the SNS Foundation Building in Gurgaon for the purpose of educating underprivileged youth and enabling them to qualify for employment opportunities in plumbing field. This shall in turn create a pool of qualified plumbers for the industry; in order to address scarcity of certified professional is this field.

At KPA, interested unskilled youth will undergo the regimens of a structured course which will help them acquire a different professional as well as personal dimension, besides enabling them to be considered as the potential talent, both by the industry and commercial centers alike. The Academy has two certification courses to offer in Plumbing:

(a) Trained Apprentice Plumber (TAP), which is certified for doing plumbing activities at site.

(b) Trained Master Plumber (TMT), which is eligible for supervision of plumbing activities at site.

Notably, there is flexibility on required minimum educational qualification for enrolment of the students for 'apprenticeship program'. So, the program even registers the students who have discontinued studies post their initial schooling. KPA study courses are accredited and certified by IAPMO-I (The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials) & IPA (Indian Plumbing Association). The course will follow formal syllabus and curriculum with course material in form of power point slides, text books, handouts as e-copies. One week training will also be provided to the Academy Trainers at IAPMO's Bangalore and Pune centers.

The SNS foundation will help mobilize students from underprivileged areas for enrolment in 'Trained Apprentice Plumber' course. The course duration being 45 days, KPA plans to take in strength of 15 students per batch with an annual plan of taking in 70 students. SNS foundation is charging approximately INR 1,700 from each student as course fee and shall also provide hostel facility for outstation students.
