Today, constructing sustainable buildings is no longer an option, nor are architects looking for incentives to build them; this is because constructing responsibly is a part of our lessons and our practice.

There is no longer strong resistance by clients to invest in such buildings (because of their higher associated costs) as people are becoming increasingly concerned about environmental issues and their health. This is because sustainable buildings respond better to the climate, conserve and even generate clean energy, and reduce carbon emissions. In fact, such buildings lead to substantial financial savings over the long term.

At Ds2 Architecture

At Ds2 Architecture, we provide adequate air circulation in the buildings we design, with large openings to let in natural light and ventilation. We are designing large southern roofs to accommodate solar panels and are making raw surfaces instead of painted surfaces. Our Davis Road apartment project in Bangalore is a seamless amalgamation of aesthetics and function, culture and contexts, and construction nuances, where Indian aesthetics interplay with modern sensibilities. From often-overlooked details to large voluminous forms, every element is a pursuit in sculpting an enriching experience.

At Ds2 Architecture

The traditional Indian style of space planning – Nalukettu - has been interpreted in a modern way by a defining frame. The skylight has been covered with 50% solar panels to control excess light and generate energy. The façade of the project functions on multiple aspects: it addresses security issues pertaining to the building’s immediate context and it also doubles as a shading element. It creates a thermal buffer zone between the built space, while facilitating growth of vegetation. As the creepers grow, they not only cut direct light and heat but also negate use of curtains internally.
