There is a growing recognition of the need for architecture and interior design concepts that make an environmentally conscious choice in the design and selection of building materials Abhishek Chadha, The KariGhars

One of the cardinal rules I follow when it comes to sustainable design is taking advantage of natural light. It is a great source of illumination and helps create a positive impact on the residents. But most importantly, plenty of natural light indoors allows for a drastic cut-down on energy consumption. In our projects we use floor-to-ceiling windows or very large ones, for both light and ventilation.

An outdoor garden provides fresh air, and a space to relax and unwind. We have augmented such spaces with a koi fishpond, fountains, and wicker furniture. However, the making of a sustainable home also depends upon the right choice of the material palette. At KariGhars, we use locally available construction materials, along with supporting local artisans, which also reduces transportation costs.

Sustainable and luxurious homes do not need to be mutually exclusive; in fact, it is easy to incorporate elements of luxury in an eco-conscious home

Efficiently built environments incorporate smart home applications that help reduce the carbon footprint. These include home automation, solar panels, temperature-regulating walls to help keep the home cooler, LED lighting, HVAC systems, low-flush toilets to reduce water wastage, and locally grown plants that require minimum maintenance.
