India’s first home building material platform Mistry.Store has launched a “sampling store on wheels” India’s first of its kind van, which will carry samples from across 75+brands of building materials right to the doorstep of architects, interior decorators, builders, and product specifiers. The $25 billion home interior segment in India employs over five million professionals; however, the market continues to be extremely fragmented with issues of price opacity, counterfeit products, poor customer service, and ad-hoc professional fees.

Contractors and designers can reach Mistry.Store on a WhatsApp number with their requirements. The vans will carry samples across 8+ categories, making it easy for them to choose products at one go for their ongoing projects. So far, the company has curated samples to 25+ home-building professionals (Interior Decorators, Architects, Builders) in Gurugram, and plans to reach more such professionals in Gurugram alone via digital mediums.

The startup has also launched an app (available on Android and iOS) to give access to Mistry’s 1500+ product catalogue, with a simplified order placement and delivery mechanism, expense and project management tools, along with a dashboard to view all the earnings and transactions, besides creating a network where buyers can earn rewards through referrals.

Mistry.Store is simplifying building material purchases; initially, the van will focus on core categories like boards, laminates, electricals, lights, sanitaryware, plumbing, hardware, plywood, etc and will keep extending the categories.

Says Vaibhav Poddar, “The home building segment is highly unorganized, with no standard pricing or assurance of quality products. We have identified the inefficiencies of the system and have created a platform to help simplify materials purchase and also help the professionals improve their productivity, efficiency, and earnings.”

Mistry.Store houses one of the largest warehouses and sampling areas in Gurugram spread over 20,000 sqft. While it is currently catering to the Delhi and NCR market, the start-up has onboarded over 2,500+ professionals in the last one year and expects more this year.

Mistry.Store is bridging the gap by providing an exciting opportunity for home interior professionals who have to deal with an extremely fragmented sourcing ecosystem; they also face issues of price opacity, and have to deal with multiple vendors, poor customer service, and ad-hoc charges.

“The market for home interior materials in NCR and surrounding areas is worth $3-5 billion. We want to create a deep presence within this area over the next 12-18 months before expanding to other metro cities,” informs Poddar. He adds that India’s home interiors market, which was estimated to be worth a little over $23 billion in 2020, is expected to grow at 5-10% CAGR. Mistry.Store has so far raised $2 million in a seed funding round led by Omidyar Network India, Waveform VC and Bharat Founders Fund.
