Grant Garmezy gave a peek into his fascinating world of craftsmanship
Marking his inaugural appearance in India, Grant Garmezy gave a peek into his fascinating world of craftsmanship at the Rural Modern Glass Studio by Arjun Rathi, Principal at Arjun Rathi Design, and co-Founder of Design Democracy. Garmezy showcased his mastery by bringing to life the essence of Indian heritage through the medium of glass. Delving into the intricate fusion of art, culture, and skill, Garmezy captivated the audience with his unique interpretations and artistic vision.

At the heart of Garmezy’s craft lies the dynamic process of hot sculpting, an intricate technique, where molten glass is meticulously manipulated by hand, harnessing the forces of heat, timing, and gravity. Unlike traditional approaches, Garmezy’s artistic vision transcends the realm of functional glass items, delving deep into the sculptural essence of the medium. His works intricately captures animal imagery and natural forms, imbuing each creation with a captivating narrative and expressive depth.

Says Arjun Rathi, “As a multi-disciplinary studio working across Architecture & Lighting Design, we aim to interpret space through the lens of lighting, design fixtures, and installations. From single pieces made together with craftsmen to mass produced objects developed in collaboration with the manufacturers; the studio is not defined by a particular style, but rather by questioning objects while considering their context and cultural associations. We take care of each project phase, from onsite visits, exploratory studies, design, and technical drawings to the final production and space atmosphere. Since the final product and accessories are always produced in our manufactory, they are therefore quality certified.
